If this were marketed as a fan game, it’d be a damn impressive one.

It’s neat that people like the groundwork MDHR laid out, yknow? I think that sort of thing should be encouraged. Still, I think it does a disservice to the inspiration the creators have gotten from the original game to say it’s completely a ripoff. Like magic from another dimension, Enchanted Portals has appeared with an adorable trailer and a familiar play style. Yes, the animation is a lot less polished and looks cheaper, but Studio MDHR put themselves through financial hell to get the game looking as good as it did, and it’s unreasonable to expect other indie creators to do the same.

At the time of writing the project is pledged with a 5,000 USD and counting. Unfortunately since they’ve stuck so close to the material that inspired it, it’s nigh impossible to judge this work by it’s own merits the art style and gameplay together are constantly reminding of another product. Enchanted Portals is back on Kickstarter to fund the project with a goal of 130,486. Stay tuned for future updates gamedev indiegame UnrealEngine. We thank Epic Games for trusting us and giving us this opportunity to accelerate the development of Enchanted Portals. I imagine the makers genuinely want to put out something fun and interesting. We are pleased to announce that Enchanted Portals are Epic MegaGrants Recipients. There’s a lot of talk about how this is a ripoff or a cheap copy or a soulless reskin, but honestly looking at how a lot of the bosses move and play out, there’s clearly a lot of work and cute ideas put into this.
#ENCHANTED PORTALS GAMEPLAY PC#
The Switch and PC project hasn't even made it to Kickstarter yet, but already. but the gameplay formula follows the same route as Studio MDHR’s release. A new and 'magical' 2D platformer titled Enchanted Portals has come under fire for its close resemblance to Cuphead.

I feel like this game has been getting a lot of hate, and while I don’t fault anyone for it I also don’t think it’s fair. A team by the name of Xixo Games Studio made up of two avid developers, released a new trailer for Enchanted Portals.
